Herons

I photographed these herons last evening just as the sun was going down. I must get a camera with a telescopic lens.

aren't they superbly confident in their posture. there are some nesting in the castle grounds in stornoway - what a racket they make! it sounds like some prehistoric pterodactyl argument - quite errie in the twilight.

oh we have them here too ! mags! here we call them 'Trane' (pronounced tranar) and my nearest town is 'Tranemo' - named after the thousands that arrive here every spring!

I think alos Nadine has a connection with herons - she once sent me a postcard she had painted of a heron!

They are so prehistoric .......and huge!!!!

I find herons to be mysterious birds, somehow...self possessed...

I have loved herons since I was a child when I painted one from a book as I had never seen a real one. An uncle who was a famous artist drew a proper one beside the one I painted. I have that framed and I will try and post it soon.

Lovely photos, Mags. Very serene.

I have some heron trousers I bought from Gudrun Sjoden which I'm wearing for the first time today!
