St David's Day

You may have noticed I have a new logo on my blog tonight. I am very proud to have been on the Big List of Sewing Blogs for some time and am 38th on the list and my rank on Technorati is now 147,290.

St David or 'Dewi Sant' is the patron saint of Wales and most of us will wear a daffodil to celebrate tomorrow, March 1st.

Here is the Birthday card I had from Joan. She is a member of SerenTex and a wonderful textile artist. I had the pleasure of interviewing her for Issue 4 of Fibre & Stitch and she is also going to write an article for us. If you want to see more of Joan's work have a look at the SerenTex blog. I have missed two meetings and the blog is not up to date I'm afraid. I know there will be lots of wonderful work when I attend next week. Maybe there will be more Birthday cards waiting for me too!

My Garden Gate

My page from Alis Clair coincided with my Birthday, so she also sent a Birthday Card at the same time. The page with the Wrought Iron gate is so beautiful I had to show it open as well. Thanks you Alis, you know how much I love Wrought Iron.
The Birthday card is also lovely and they made my day. Visit her blog to read more about them.
Blogging takes a lot of patience just now and refuses to let me post any more photos, so if things are a little better I will post again later on to show you some more artwork.

Inspiration

I hope my photo of this evening's sunset will inspire someone to use the colours in a piece of art. I have so many things I would like to share with you after my birthday yesterday, but for the last 3 days I have had Internet Connection troubles in a big way. As soon as things get back to normal, hopefully tomorrow, I will post photos of art work I was sent by friends.

A postcard day

This is just to show that my view is not always perfect! It was a very nasty morning, but looks a lot better by this afternoon.

as it was such a miserable day it was ideal weather to stay in and have some fun. I need to make a lot of Postcards during the next few months, so I decided to start them today using my Zandra Rhodes inspiration. I know she would never start by using such dark colours, but when I was doing my screen-printing for the TIFF challenge, I used the leftover printing medium on dark fabrics. Today I started over-printing them with brighter colours. Now I need to tack this one to a thin layer of batting and maybe there will be a few more additions to it before I start to free motion embroider it. Watch this space. It might only be fit for the bin, but it's fun and that's why I do all this.

Today I was tagged by Laurence Thank you Laurence for enjoying my blog so much. I enjoyed your blog and I also enjoyed the other blogs on your list in particular the Circle Design - Cd Histoires which I thought was a new (to me) idea to have a whole blog with circular work only.

February Challenge - Wall of Flowers

I have another wonderful birthday card to share with you. This one was from Emmy. Isn't it wonderful. I commented on this particular card on her blog here saying it was my favourite without knowing that she had already posted it to me.

Here is my finished Take it Further challenge February « In a Minute Ago It has given me great pleasure, thinking about the challenge brought back so many memories of my own and looking at all the other challenges brought back so many more memories that I hadn't even realised were there. It has inspired me to create a stitched book of memories on my happy childhood in this house where I spent the first 5 years of my life.

Embellisher flowers

I know we are looking at the same old moon, but this one is looking particularly good the last few nights against a perfect blue sky.

I'm making progress with Take it Further challenge February « In a Minute Ago. This is only a tiny corner of my work for this month. I'll always remember the first house we lived in, I wasn't born there, but moved in when I was a very young baby. We lived there until I was 5 years old. My mother was a keen gardener, but to my father gardening was a chore. She had mauve and white flowers cascading down the wall of the coal house and it was beautiful. She used the flowers to make wreaths for family and friends funerals. My original idea was to use my embellisher to create a blurry, mauve, white and green background and then create a wreath that would show up on it. But the embellisher begged me to stitch into it and this I did with a vengeance.

This is the beautiful birthday card I received from Lynda Purple Missus this morning. We both belong to the Fiberartfriends Yahoo group and this month we are both having a birthday. Last year Lynda made me a card with another lovely dress complete with the fairy, so this year she made another dress for the fairy. Isn't it lovely?

Ton Schulten inspired

Just in case you think I have been idle I've posted a photo of my Ton Schulsen inspired work for the SerenTex Textile group. We were all given a page of a calendar of TS' work and we could use it as inspiration for any kind of work we fancied doing. I decided to use my Janome Embellisher for mine. See my Inspiration page here Digital Gran: Ton Schulsen It's a fairly large piece about 12"x10" and I have decided to make an ethnic type of shoulder bag. It has taken quite a lot of time to blend all the colours together using the Embellisher. I then cut it up into 3 strips. Then cut the middle one into 3 smaller pieces and put it all together again in a different order, backed with black felt. Then added some of the bright colours. It's far from finished, but I'm fairly pleased with it so far.

Embellished postcard

I must share this beautiful postcard with you. It is by a very talented textile artist that most of you will know about already, the Textile Goddess and she also has a website which is well worth a visit Helen Cowans Textile Artist

I love swans and I took this photo when I was out with my grandsons yesterday. They are so graceful until they start waddling on land.

Fabric Postcards

This is the wonderful Postcard I had yesterday morning from Susan Lenz who has started the great idea of the Cyber Fyber Exhibition. This has meant a great deal of work for Susan and her husband and I wish them every success and support.

February is my Birthday Month and I have just had my first birthday card. It's from my young Welsh speaking friend Carol T of Taylor's textile trials. I love it Carol. Thanks. Diolch yn fawr i ti.

A misty day

Firstly I'd like to thank all of you who have been kind enough to leave comments on the last few posts if I have not been able to get back to thank you personally, it is very much appreciated.

Here at last is the page I owe Alis. She wanted a page with anything Egyptian, in fact she said Walk like an Egyptian and even though the one I have chosen is not a picture of someone walking I can just imagine Queen Nefertiti walking very gracefully with that beautiful long neck. It is made using the Xpression Janome Embellisher and I have tried to capture the sandy desert colours and the distressed shrouds of the Egyptian mummies. Nefertiti was printed on cotton and padded from the back. The patterned strips are made from plastic tissue and gold stretch fabric.

Today has been a vary calm and misty day and I took many photos of the estuary and castle. Below is a photo I took last night when the sky was very clear witha wonderful new moon. My father used to say it would be dry if the moon was like this, it was like a bowl and would hold water. I will have to watch the weather to see if this is true!

Postcards

Here are two postcards that I finished last night and posted this morning. My Internet connection is very slow this last week and it's rather difficult to blog I'm afraid.

Finished work

Here is the Arch I have just finished for Arlee who suggested using Baroque art for inspiration with hot colours and copper and she wanted something funky. This is not all that funky, but it fits in with the rest. It was fun to make Arlee. It uses paper fabric I made especially for it, tiny felt rolled buttons I made and rolled in PVA then painted orange and then added some treasure Gold and machine made buttonholes. Some painted laces and ribbon, oh, yes and a stamp to finish.
This was based on The Laughing Cavalier by Franz Hals a Baroque artist in 1624.
Now I'm off to finish a page on Walking like and Egyptian for Alis Clair and a birthday card for Lynda and a postcard for Cyber Fyber.

Internet problems

I don't think I've blogged this one before, but it's a mask I made of a Welsh story from the Mabinogi. She's called Blodeuwedd and was created form the trees and flowers so that she would become the wife of the Welsh prince, Lleu. But she was as wild as the the trees and the flowers from which she was created and she was unfaithful so the wizard that created her turned her into an owl. This is a part of my childhood memories. My father used to tell me these tales before I went to bed.

I've been having the strangest problems with my Internet connection the last couple of days which made me think I needed to do a bit of housekeeping on my laptop. So today I have spent most of my time getting rid of some programs and running Check on my disk. It's still running slow after all that.
While I've been waiting for things to happen I've had plenty of time to go up and down Memory Lane and find I have so many things I remember for Sharon B's new February challenge. Perhaps this will be another Journal? Far too many memories for one piece of work.
Where shall I start? My very first recollections are of the house we just called 24. my cousins lived next door in 25. there were about 5 steps to go up to the front door which was painted green and underneath the garden there was a coalhouse with a green door. The wall surrounding the coalhouse was covered with purple and white flowers. I remember that the mauve ones were Aubrietas, the white flowers were very similar but I can't remember what those were called.
I remember my mother made wreaths for friends and family bereavements with these flowers. I don't know where she learned to make them, but she used moss and wire and they looked very professional.

Zandra Rhodes Postcards

It's been a strange sort of day here and this is what the sky looked like around 4 pm. Very heavy and pinky at the back of the house, so I wonder what that will bring. Snow?

I have made three cards 4x6" again using my theme of Zandra Rhodes. The first one turned out too fussy, the last two are better.

I'm now starting to think of the next challenge which you will find here Take it Further challenge February « In a Minute Ago. I find a very difficult one, not the idea, I know exactly what I remember, but how to turn that into textile is my problem. I have a month to do it in, so I will put my thinking cap on.
In the meantime I'm getting my things ready for my Expressive Books challenge, but I still have a couple of things to finish first.
