Plas Tan y Bwlch

Here is a taster of some of the things you’ll see on the SerenTex blog in the days to come. This is work in progress by Maggie.

I think this has inspired me to create a piece of work with the embellisher.

I love Angie Lewin’s work and would love to sketch in a similar style and Mary suggested that I could practice the style by copying some of her work in my sketchbook. I never copy work, but I think this is a good idea as I have noticed several things I would not have noticed if I’d just looked at it.

Sunday at Plas Tan y Bwlch

The weather has been very kind to us this year and it’s bright and warm here. Just my kind of weather-not too hot and no rain!

Today the muse returned, she didn’t work too hard, but maybe I had been pushing her a bit recently, but at least it seems she’s forgiven me. he above uses a sketch I drew. First thing this morning I went for a short walk along some of the many paths here at Plas discovering the joy of nature once again. Some plants and flowers I seem to have ignored for most of my life. We had a very good headmaster in our tiny local school who used to take us for nature walks and it was the things I saw with him that I rediscovered this morning.

Plas Tan y Bwlch

I have to be honest with myself and say that I’ve hardly done anything except eat since I’ve been here. I sorted out some files on my external hard drive which I brought with me, tried drawing a few sketches that I’m not pleased and taken a few photos. All my friends are doing some wonderful things, but my muse seems to have left me completely!

Plas Tan y Bwlch

Here I am at Plas Tan y Bwlch once again with my SerenTex friends. I have decided this is going to be a short holiday and I will not be doing a lot of stitching or embellisher work, but I do hope to play with my laptop, take photos, sketch and design using my Artista V6 software for my Bernina machine. I updated a while ago from V4 which would not work with Windows 7 but have not spent any time getting to know it, so this weekend will give me an opportunity to try it out. I didn’t bring my Bernina embroidery machine, so all I will do is design and maybe have a go at designing for the Cutwok tool at the same time.

Here is photo I took this evening of the hall and stairs of this beautiful old mansion.

And I have a feeling this drawer handle will inspire me to do something.

This has been used in previous work from time to time.

Tomorrow I hope to have photos of some work in progress by some of my friends.

Clean bed linen

patterns 010 patterns 012

As I changed the bed linen I noticed the patterns! Then of course I went to get my camera and took some photos. Well, what else can you do to make these boring jobs more interesting?

patterns 012c

Play a bit more perhaps? I don’t think I would have a very restful night in bedclothes like this.

patterns 012e

Nor this. But I did do something a little more sensible to relax……

Ivy leaves sketch

I need some ivy leaves and I must admit they are the most difficult things to sketch, so I only sketched one and copied and pasted the same leaf over and over.

Colours

2011-07-13 fabric

I wonder if anyone else has such a pleasing and colourful dustbin area as we do? A neighbour always makes sure we have lovely flowers growing everywhere and I was warned that these flowers would only last a day or so if I wanted to take photos of them!

fabric 015

The fabric I finished yesterday became a book cover today.

Then I realised I didn’t have enough scrim dyed in the colours above, so set about dyeing this lot. It was very warm up in my attic workroom today, but the dyeing had to be done.

They can now go in the box with all the rest of the scrim I’d coloured previously. A very colourful day!

Re-energized

After taking it easy at the weekend I find myself full of energy. Yesterday I gave the place a much needed clean and after finishing the washing I also did the ironing! I’m very pleased with myself Smile

I did all this hand stitching

and had some fun with my embroidery machine.

These wild flowers look fantastic on the beach below us just now.

And this is tonight’s sunset. So all in all I can say I’ve had a good day and I hope tomorrow is just as good.

A lazy day

I’ve been taking it easy today and read a book after coming home from Llandudno this morning. This evening I found some hand made books I was looking for and misplaced in my untidy workroom. That’s the problem when you have as many interests as I do, things get out of hand Smile

estuary 007

Let me introduce you to ‘Mary’. I think she looks beautiful in the evening sun.

estuary 003

i like the way the railway lines shine in the sunset.

You can hardly see the moon here. Pity!

I’ve been having a little play with the Embellisher in the last few days.
